PopWord is a vocabulary app that helps you learn a word at a time. We have written this policy in plain language so you can quickly understand how your data is handled.
Our promise
PopWord does not sell your information or show advertising. In the current version, your learning history stays on your device.
Your learning data stays on your device
PopWord stores the things it needs to work on your phone, including:
- your languages, learning path, and saved words;
- your level, sparks, and streak;
- your settings and appearance choices;
- the vocabulary downloaded for offline use.
The limited data we receive
Some information is needed to deliver the app, keep it reliable, and protect it from abuse. We never receive the words you study, your learning progress, your voice choice, or anything you type unless you choose to send a word suggestion.
- Vocabulary requests. When the app checks for vocabulary, our server receives your IP address, the language and collection you requested, and a Google Play Integrity token. The token helps us keep automated misuse away from the service; it does not identify you.
- Word suggestions. When you choose Suggest, we receive the word reference and the correction or note you write. Limited technical information helps us protect this form from spam. We do not include your learning history.
- Crash reports and basic app use. Firebase helps us understand crashes and broad app use, such as opens and return visits. This can include device and app details, an approximate region, and limited technical information. We also send the two-letter codes for your learning and translation languages and counts of learning activity: words shown on the Home card, words learned or put off for later, whether you turned reminders on, whether you set up the wallpaper or widget, whether you opened the app from a reminder or the widget, Practice and Check-in scores, levels, streaks, and daily goals. It never includes which words you studied or the answers you chose.
We use Google Cloud Run to host vocabulary, Google Play Integrity to protect the service, and Firebase for crash reports and basic usage information. These services may process data in other countries, including the United States. Read Google’s data-processing terms and Firebase’s privacy information.
Permissions
- Internet and network state let PopWord download vocabulary and recognize when you are offline.
- Notifications are requested only when you turn on reminders. The rest of the app works if you decline.
- Startup, keep-awake, and background scheduling let reminders and wallpaper word changes continue after your device restarts.
- Install referrer tells Firebase which Play Store page led to an install.
PopWord does not ask for access to your camera, microphone, precise location, contacts, photos, or files. If a future version needs a new permission, we will explain why and update this policy before that release.
Your choices
Reminders, the live wallpaper, and the widget are optional and off until you turn them on. Word suggestions are optional too. Crash reports and basic usage information are collected by default, and there is no separate in-app switch for them. You can change your languages, pace, and appearance in Settings.
Keeping and deleting data
Your learning data is currently stored on your phone until you remove it. You can erase a journey’s progress in Settings → Learning, clear PopWord’s storage in Android Settings, or uninstall the app.
- Clearing storage or uninstalling stops future Firebase collection from that installation. Reports already received are kept for Firebase’s normal retention periods.
- We keep API logs only as long as they are useful for security and troubleshooting.
- We keep word suggestions for review until we remove them. Contact us if you would like a suggestion removed.
Children’s privacy
PopWord is made for a general audience and is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.
